Help Save The Screens!

Topics:

In the last 72 hours I've received emails from no less than FIVE site visitors asking about screen protection for their Windows Mobile devices. Unfortunately, in 3 of those 5 cases, the damage had been done with scratches - one to the point that I think he is going to have to get a new digitizer (sorry Dave!)....

So that said, I wanted to shed a bit of light on Screen Protection options you have for your devices.

Almost every device that is available today has a screen protector available for them. Usually these are thin plastic strips with adhesive on one side that attached to your devices screen, completely covering it. These things are so thin they don't impact your use of the device or the visibility of it.

Most OEMs sell screen protectors for their specific models. These are generally more expensive - you get to pay for the name - but do a great job. These range in price from $15.99-24.99 depending on who you are buying it from.

For an alternative, check out the Clear Touch Anti-Glare screen protectors from Boxwave (http://www.boxwave.com). These are a little price - about $20 - but they last forever and are washable. I've had one on my ViewSonic V36 for 3 years now and aside from the occasional washing to get it clean, it is still great and has hardly any scratches. It is well worth the investment.

For a homemade alternative, if you are patient enough you can cut and lay down some plastic wrap on your screen. No, you can't leave me feedback on how frustrating the process can be to get cut correctly and to adhere! :-)

Finally, no matter if you use a screen protector or not, replace that stylus every once in a while. Stylus go through a lot of wear-and-tear and we often don't think about them. Most OEMs produce replacement stylus' while you can buy 3rd party ones that are multifunctional (Stylus, Pen, Pointer) that have stylus refills available.

So save the screens! And save yourself some money in the long run!

WriteSHIELD is a great product from what I have been told. Personally I've never used them so I can't speak from experience on it.

I have no idea if they are getting them from the same manufacturer to be honest.... I wouldn't be terribly shocked if that were the case though!

Thanks for the kind words - I appreciate it.
