10 for 9 in '08 - Bejeweled 2

I guess I need to speed this series up if I want it to be all about '08 :)  At any rate, for the category of Color Matching games, there really was no contest.  While there may have been some innovations to the genre since it's release, Bejeweled 2 is still the most captivating game in this group.  Clearly the general populace agrees, as it continues to appear at the top of the charts on Astraware's best sellers list.  Bellow are a couple of reasons that I put it at the top of mine.

The Hyper-Cube Attack In Action

Bejeweled 2 is my favorite “color matching” game. While it doesn’t sport all of the game play features found on more modern variants, everything Bejeweled 2 does it does with style. The game is simple to play with the stylus. There are nine different types of game play—an incredible number for this type of game. The Hyper Cube power-up not only looks cool, but is probably one of the most functional power-ups in a color matching game, eliminating all jewels of the same color as the one that was swapped with it. The visuals, which are often neglected in a puzzle game, simply shine in Bejeweled 2. And the music, while not as memorable as the venerable classic Tetris, is quite well orchestrated. This is just about everything you could ask for from the color matching genre
