Early Videos of HTC Touch Pro2, More Reviews of Touch Diamond2

Well, you can hardly get more enthusiastic than PocketNow, speculating that the HTC Touch Pro2 may be one of the hottest smartphones of all time. A couple early videos of this device, reportedly coming from T-Mobile, have been posted, so you can see for yourself what you think. This week I’ll also point you to a couple more reviews of the HTC Touch Diamond2, as well as listings of websites designed for the small screen of mobile devices.

HTC Touch Pro2

A new generation of the popular HTC Touch devices is expected in the next few months. These iPhone-like devices have the TouchFlo 3D interface and a large screen. They’ll be released with Windows Mobile 6.1, but a free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released when it becomes available.

Last week I pointed you to early reviews and videos of the Touch Diamond2. This week, videos and info about the Touch Pro2 are starting to appear. As you may recall, the latter device has a slideout keyboard.

A Russian site, Mobile-Review.com, has posted a detailed review (autotranslated to English by Google). It has a ton of screen shots and photos, including photos comparing the device side-by-side with the Touch Diamond2 and with an iPhone. There are also sample photos and videos taken using the device.

PocketNow has posted a couple videos on YouTube showing this device. This first video shows the hardware and gives you a good feeling for how the slideout keyboard works. And the second video gives you a look at the software that comes with it.

More Reviews of Touch Diamond2

Last week I pointed you to some video reviews of the new Touch Diamond2. Additional reviews are now appearing. PocketNow has posted a detailed review, as well as a very helpful software tour video. The latter explains that the new version of the TouchFlo 3D interface on these devices has a number of changes and improvements over the old version — calendar with weather integration, a unified communications screen, more intuitive notifications area, push Internet, and more.

Also 4WinMobile.com has a review. Instead of his usual review, Daron has recorded his thoughts and feelings each day over a period of a week in order to give insight into how well it performs.

Windows Mobile 6.5 Not Coming May 11

The danger of passing along rumors is, of course, that they’ll turn out to be wrong. Last week I noted that Windows Mobile 6.5, according to Engadget, would be officially launched May 11 — whatever that meant, since it’s known that the new devices running it won’t appear until the fourth quarter of this year.

Wrong, says Microsoft. The Boy Genius Report says that Microsoft is saying that WM 6.5 will be demoed at the Tech Ed conference in May, but that this isn’t an actual release.

Web Sites Tailored to Windows Mobile Devices

As you well know, it can be a pain looking at a website on your phone that’s been designed for a desktop computer. Luckily, many websites also have a mobile version, and there are directories of such sites. For a long time I’ve maintained a list of such directories.

Ed Hansberry recently put together a helpful list of some of the most useful mobile sites.
