Pantech MATRIX Pro Ready To Launch

Pantech is ready to launch the Matrix Pro for the AT&T network on February 24th. The Matrix Pro will retail at $179.99 with a two year commitment or $429.99 without a contract.

The new pro version sports some improved specifications over the previous Pantech Duo such as a faster 528 MHz processor, a much needed RAM boost of 256 MB ROM + 128MB RAM, Micro SD slot that can handle 32 GB memory cards, Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA, a 2MP camera, BlueTooth 2.0 and Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard for smartphone's. Full specifications can be found here.

These updates should make the new Matrix more user friendly and capable as a device for business users with light demands. The previous model suffered from ribbon cable failures from opening the slider frequently which hopefully has been resolved with the Matrix Pro.

With the iPhone only $20 more than the Matrix Pro on a two year contract, I predict that it may have a tough time competing for the mind share it's looking for. The fact that it has a physical keyboard should attract users who don't like Apple's capactive touch on-screen keyboard.
