Best of Everything - Resco Radio
A couple of weeks ago I started my review of the Best of Everything Software Package. The first program out of the blocks is Resco Radio.

Resco Radio brings streaming Internet radio to your Pocket PC. You will need an Internet connection - either wireless or using your phone data connection. For this review I used my iPAQ hw6915 with my GPSR connection (via Cingular/AT&T).
Resco Radio has numerous stations available to choose from which are available via the Open menu.

The main screen contains several preset buttons (6 for my 240x240 screen, more on larger screens) which you can set to your favorite stations. There are also controls for volume, next/previous preset as well as play/stop button. The display will show which station as well as artist information (if supported by station). There is also a button to turn off your display.
Another feature brought back memories of my childhood - recording! The record button lets you record the current show - just like the good ole days when we'd record Dr. Demento or a couple hours of Hearts of Space onto cassette. Resco Radio also lets you schedule recordings, so you never have to miss your favorite radio show!
As with all streaming media in order to have good playback there will need to be buffering. Resco Radio does an initial buffer but if there's a problem with your connection there may need to be further buffering. I found with my GPSR connection if I started with a strong signal and didn't move around it would play music continuously w/o interruptions. Moving around did cause problems. Considering the variations in signal strength while moving between radio towers this is understandable. So while this works great when you are stationary, don't expect this to replace satellite radio anytime soon. :)
Resco Radio is just one of many great applications contained on the Best of Everything Software Package
Note - I am not employed by Smartphone and Pocket PC Magazine. I'm a volunteer reviewing this product for the magazine.

Rico, there are several hacked AKU3.5 versions for the Apache. I am not allowed to give you the URL of them; use Google. Or, just look around in the Apache forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=252 ) of XDA-Developers.
The official update was also annonced some 2 months ago (see http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/06/aku3-for-verizons-xv6700-wm5-device-officially-going-to-be-la/ ); I don't know more info on them.
