Changing e-mail settings: past e-mail, size limit, and more

When changing your e-mail settings in Messaging, remember that there are two places to do so: in the Options menu in ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center on your desktop PC, and in the Options menu in Messaging on your device.

ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC)

When you are syncing your e-mail to your Windows Mobile device from your PC via ActiveSync or WMDC, you may notice that only e-mail from the past three days, two weeks, or other default time setting will be loaded. You can change this setting and other e-mail synchronization settings in the ActiveSync/WMDC window on your PC:

  1. With your device synced to your PC, open the ActiveSync/WMDC window on your desktop.
  2. ActiveSync: Click Tools >Options, highlight E-mail, and click the Settings button. WMDC: Click Mobile Device Settings >Change content sync settings >E-mail Sync Settings.
  3. In the following menu, click the down arrow across from “Download (or Sync) the past:”
  4. The drop-down menu has six options: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, or All.
  5. Note that you can also select a “Message format” (HTML or Plain Text; may not be available for all devices), set a “Download size limit” for e-mails, “Include file attachments” (and set the size), or select additional e-mail folders to synchronize by clicking the “Select Folders (to sync)” button.
  6. When you have finished adjusting your settings, click OK (or Save) to finalize the changes.

Messaging options (on your device)

To change other e-mail settings, open Messaging on your device and go to Menu >Tools >Options (the location of the Options menu may vary depending on the device. It may just be under Menu or just under Tools). The Options menu includes:
(Note that the options in touch screen devices are under different tabs; non-touch screen devices have a vertical list of options.)

  • Signatures: Enter a signature that you want to be included at the bottom of your e-mails
  • Display and Sending (or Message tab): Set options for message sorting and notifications
  • Other options
